Getting electricity suppliers to actually say what they will charge you is still a bizarrely difficult task in 2025. To save you the bother, I’ve scraped the rates from the top EV tariff providers and listed them in the table below.
| Supplier | Tariff Name | Daily charge (p/day) | Peak rate (p/kWh) | Offpeak rate (p/kWh) | Offpeak times |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EON Next | Next Drive Smart 5.2 | 60 | 28.49 | 6.5 | 00:00 – 06:00 |
| So Energy | So EV | 57.03 | 29.3 | 6.5 | 00:00 – 5:00am |
| EDF | Go Electric Jan27 | 56.73 | 28.26 | 9 | 00:00 – 5:00am |
| EON Next | Next Drive Fixed V11 | 60 | 30.04 | 7.5 | 00:00 – 06:00 |
| Octopus | Go | 47.08 | 31.94 | 8.5 | 0:30 – 5:30am |
| Octopus | Intelligent | 55.79 | 31.94 | 7 | 11:30 – 5:30am |
| British Gas | Electric Driver v9 | 54.9 | 31.9 | 9 | 00:00 – 5:00am |
🔌 Here’s a list of the key changes and trends from March 2025 to Nov 2025.
- E.ON Next has expanded its presence, with Next Drive Smart 5.2 and Next Drive Fixed V11. Next Drive Smart 5.2 looks to be a challenger to the Octopus Intelligent and the OVO Anytime tariffs with an encouraging offpeak rate of 6.5p/kWh. The snag? Not all EVs are compatible 🤦♂️.
- So Energy jumps in with a very competitive So EV tariff — offpeak at 6.5p/kWh.
- Off-peak windows have become more standardised, with most tariffs now clustering around midnight–5/6am rather than offering unusual or flexible windows.
- Peak rates now cluster more tightly, with most November tariffs sitting around the 27–29p/kWh mark, reducing differences between suppliers at the daytime rate.
- Standing charges continue to climb overall, especially on the EV-specific tariffs — November’s top tariffs generally show higher estimated annual standing costs than the March set.
- More “smart” EV-optimized products appear in November (e.g., E.ON Drive Smart 5.2, Octopus Intelligent, OVO Everywhere), showing a trend toward automated/managed charging being used to offer lower off-peak prices.
The Verdict ⚖️
The best standard EV tariff looks to be So EV by So Energy with an excellent offpeak rate (6.5p/kWh), a competitive peak rate (29.3p/kWh) and a decent offpeak window.
Best Smart Tariff? 🤓
Compatibility is key. What is the point in having a world leading smart tariff if only a sub-set of a sub-set of customers can have it? Octopus Intelligent Go still seems be the available to the widest variety of EV and charger types.
