Just when I thought electricity prices couldn’t possibly rise any further – we are 3 years on from when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sent energy prices soaring – I get an email from Octopus informing me that rates are going up again this March. The price hike isn’t much but it has prompted me to scan the market to see what the ‘Big-6’ retailers are offering electricity-loving EV customers since I posed my 2024 EV tariff comparison. I will share the results with you here.
Best UK EV Electricity Tariffs Compared

Figure 1. EV electricity tariff comparison table including time of use rates
EV tariffs are like American football players. They do a very specific job – but most of the time they are not at the front and centre, and from a distance they all look kind of similar.
Here are the contenders for the best and cheapest EV tariffs in the UK.
1. OVO EVEverywhere: The Elusive Champion
OVO takes the crown for the hardest-to-find rates, but once you crack the code, it’s worth it. With a peak rate dropping from 26p to 24p per kWh and the best standing charge at 47p/day, it’s like finding a hidden treasure. Off-peak rate? A cool 7p/kWh anytime. Just remember, it’s a fixed contract, so no spontaneous breakups here. Too good to be true? Not all EVs and chargers are compatible – see here for details.
2. EDF Go Electric: The Midnight Marauder
EDF’s Go Electric is perfect for night owls. With off-peak hours from midnight to 5am, you’ll be charging while the world sleeps. The peak rate has dropped to 25p/kWh, and the off-peak remains at 9p/kWh. Standing charge? A slightly hefty 59p/day. It’s a fixed contract, so you’re in it for the long haul.
3. E.ON Next Drive Fixed V6: The Early Bird Special
E.ON Next Drive Fixed V6 offers the longest off-peak period from midnight to 7am. The peak rate has dropped to 27p/kWh, and the off-peak rate is the cheapest at 6.7p/kWh. The standing charge is 57p/day. It’s a fixed contract, but with these rates, you might not mind the commitment.
4. Octopus Intelligent: The Tech-Savvy Choice
Octopus Intelligent is for those who love a bit of tech in their lives. With an extra hour of off-peak from 11:30pm to 5:30am, you’ll be charging smartly. The peak rate is 27p/kWh, off-peak is 7p/kWh, and the standing charge is roughly 55p/day. No fixed contract here, so you can switch things up if you find a better deal.
5. British Gas Electric Driver v9: The Reliable Companion
British Gas offers a solid choice with Electric Driver v9. Off-peak hours are from midnight to 5am, with a peak rate of 27p/kWh and an off-peak rate of 7.9p/kWh. The standing charge is 55p/day. No fixed contract, so you’re free to roam if you find greener pastures.
6. Octopus Go: The Flexible Friend
Last but not least, Octopus Go is the flexible friend you need. Solid off-peak hours from 12:30am to 5:30am, you’ll be saving with an off-peak rate of 8.5p/kWh. The peak rate is 27p/kWh, and the standing charge is 55p/day. No fixed contract, so you can keep an eye on new offers as they come.
Conclusion:
This quarter, there has been some price movement and some smart meter EV tariffs are starting to stand out. For those willing to fix prices for the next 12-months or so – the EDF and E.ON Next tariffs offer decent savings – and will work for most homes with smart meters . Outside of the fixed tariffs, Octopus Intelligent and Go are still safe bets given their prices and flexibility.
